3 Basic types of Dhyana or Meditation.

Meditation or Dhyana is the 7th limb of yoga according to the Patanjali’s yoga sutra.

I have categorized meditation and dhyana into three broad categories and we are going to use basically your personality to help you choose a technique best suitable for you.

Spiritual meditation :

So if you are devotional or spiritual in nature. This is the best-suited technique for you, this is where we connect to that universal energy.

Furthermore, Universal energy is for everyone. You can call it Krishna, Hanuman, Lakshmi, Allah, Jesus, Buddha, or nature, you can call it whatever you want.

It’s one of the same things and people that are devotional in nature, tend to like meditating, using a mantra, or a prayer, repeating that with Mala. Which is a great tool for concentration.

Additionally, you should focus on a specific question or concern, or mantra as you relax in a calm environment. Answers may come to you at the end of the session. But each time you meditate in this way you may feel more peaceful.

Hence, the mantra encourages you to clear your mind of stressful thoughts and focus at inner peace.

Focused meditation :

Now, let’s say you are more of neutral person.

This is the type of meditation or Dhyana you can go with. In focused meditation, you can use a more neutral object of focus,

The object could be internal.

For example, focusing on your breath, which I’m sure you’ve heard of focusing on, focusing on chakras, focusing on energy points, doing a body scan meditation.

Just keeping your awareness within.

Or the object could be external.

Also, by focusing on a sound, like playing the sound of a waterfall or the sound of rain. It could be an image, like the image of a flower, the image of a mountain anything you like.

It doesn’t really matter what it is, it just needs to be something that you enjoy focusing upon.

You may feel rejuvenated after meditating in this manner. This is may be due to the specific and positive mental workout that you experience.

The third aspect of Meditation or the 3 type is –

Loving-kindness meditation :

Also, know as Buddhist meditation in some places. This meditation is essential to cultivate a certain kind of feelings or attributes within yourself.

We can not let our true nature hidden beneath our mental clutter.

And a lot of this mental clutter comes in the form of toxins, or toxic emotions that we hold.

This meditation, is meditation based upon nice qualities like forgiveness, love, kindness, gratitude abundance.

And when we focus on these qualities, or on these feelings.

It washes away all the baggage that we hold in our mind, and floods our mind, with positive qualities.

These positive feelings, represent our true nature which is love.

And the feeling of love lifts our emotional and mental being.

Which is the best technique :

At the end of the day, you know no technique is better than the other. The best technique is the one that is best for you.

There are many ways by which you can learn to meditate. So you can choose the ones that are best suited for your needs and lifestyle.
