In the year 2017 U.S healthcare cost was 3.5 trillion, according to the centers for disease control and prevention it was estimated to be $10,739 per person making healthcare one of the largest industries, which equals 17.9% of the gross domestic product.

Which was estimated to be 27.2 billion just $147 in the year 1960, 5 % of the total g.d.p.

However, despite huge increment in per person healthcare cost the people of the U.S have a lower life expectancy than many other developed countries. This may be due to various factors, lifestyle choices and access to healthcare can be some factors.

Good and complete health is key to handle stress and helps in living more active and longer life.

But there are a few more aspects of health. You can say there are a few more types of health that should be taken into consideration.

Spiritual, emotional (now only they are being considered by the modern healthcare system) and financial health are also the major contributor and are the key components of overall health.

Healthcare experts nowadays are linking these (financial, spiritual, and emotional health) to lower stress, anxiety levels, and improved mental and physical conditions.

Whenever necessary take proper medical treatment from appropriate healthcare to maintain the balance.

Physical health involves reducing the risk of injury. It also involves pursuing a healthy lifestyle and maintaining physical fitness to decrease the risk of disease.

Just by taking care of workplaceusing, contraception while having sexpracting , maintaining important hygiene, avoiding the use of tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugstaking we can avoid health injury and health issues.

Poor physical health can lead us to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. And similarly, poor mental health can have a negative impact on physical health conditions making overall health at risk.

Components of Physical health. Key areas that should be considered are listed here….

Includes strength, flexibility and endurance.

Mental and emotional health is how well your mind works. When you have good mental health you think positively and tackle any situation, express your feeling and emotions in a healthful and efficient way.

It’s a bit harder to define mental health than physical health because most of the phycological diagnosis depends on an individual own perception of their experience.

With all this improvement in testing and healthcare technologies. Doctors are now able to identify some of the physical symptoms of mental problems in CT scans and genetic testing.

Good mental health can not only be defined as the absence of mental illness (anxiety, depression, and other mental disorder). It depends on a person’s own ability to enjoy life every expected to its full potential.

There are a lot of ways to keep your mental well being in a balanced state. Doing yoga, meditating on a daily basis also helps in keeping calm and compose the mental state.

Mental illness such as depression, anxiety can affect the overall body by effecting the body weight and other body functions. Our surrounding environment also plays a very important role in our overall mental and physical well being.

All kinds of health are linked to each other. We should aim for overall wellness and achieve good health. Now we will be discussing the key factors for good health.

Key factors for overall good health:

Here we will be taking account of few key factors that affects overall health.

Environmental factor –

As we all know our surrounding plays a very vital and important role in our overall health i.e physical, mental, emotional, and social health. Our surrounding environment is solely capable of making enough impact. The environmental trigger itself can cause illness in a person who has a genetic risk of a particular type of disease.

The interaction between human health and their environment has been extensively studied. The environmental factor has been proven, it significantly impacts human health, either directly or indirectly, by distrusting the life-sustaining ecosystem.

Although the exact contribution of the environmental factor to the death and disease can’t be precisely determined.

The World health organization ( who ) has estimated that 13 million deaths annually are attributable to prevent environmental causes.

Genetic factor:

As there are many possible causes of human disease, family history (genetics) is often one of the strongest risk factors for common disease complexes such as cancer, cardiovascular disease (cvd), diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and psychiatric illnesses.

Inherited genetic variation of the families clearly contributes both directly and indirectly to the pathogenesis of disease.[1]

WHO’s department of Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health (NMH) has done extensive work on major non-communicable diseases, like cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, asthma, and some mental illnesses.

In some cases, such as cancer, individuals are born with genes that are altered by lifestyle habits or exposure to chemicals. Cancer, for example, may involve tumour-suppressor genes, genes that suppress tumour formation, which lose their function, thus giving rise to carcinomas.

The cardiovascular disease tends to manifest itself in specific ways unique to various communities. For example, African communities tend to have strokes as a result of cardiovascular disease, while South Asians tend to have a heart attack.[2]

Cultural and social factor:

Although health is determined by a number of various factors including genetic inheritance, personal behaviors, access to quality health care, and the surrounding environment. A number of research has showing deep connection between social and cultural factors and health.

For some types of social variables, such as socioeconomic status (SES) or poverty, vigorous evidences of their links to health had been found since the very beginning of records keeping.(Berkman and Kawachi, 2000; Marmot and Wilkinson, 2006).

According to some studies, higher the person’s socioeconomic status (SES), the more likely they are to enjoy good health, have a good education, get a well-paid job, and afford good and advance healthcare in times of illness or injury. Where a low SES often means reduced access to healthcare.

A 2018 study in Frontiers in Pharmacology says that people in developed countries with universal healthcare services have longer life expectancies than those in developed countries without or non universal healthcare.

Social and cultural variable –

SES and Health:

SES has been measured by three different indicators, taken either separately or in combination: educational attainment, income, and occupational status.

Educational Attainment :

According to what the evidence suggests, nonetheless, that education is a causal variable in improving health. Natural policy experiments such as the passage of compulsory schooling legislation at different times in different localities within the United States suggest that higher levels of education are associated with better health (lower mortality) (Lleras – Muney,2002).

Income:

The measurement of income is more complex than assessing educational attainment. Nonetheless, tests of the income/health relationship in different datasets suggest that lower-income is likely to be a cause of worse health status.

Occupational Status :

Social scientists typically measure the occupational status, which is the third standard component of SES.

How does a  person manage stress will also affect their health. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, people who smoke tobacco, drink alcohol, or take illicit drugs to manage stressful situations are more likely to develop health conditions than those who manage stress through a healthful diet, relaxation techniques, exercise, Yoga, and meditation.

Maintaining good health :

Everybody wants to be healthy, but very few make the effort on day to day basis. The best way to maintain health is to preserve it through a healthy lifestyle rather than waiting until we get sick or get any health conditions.

Wellness is also an enhanced state of well being. The key to maintaining good health is the combined set of many factors.

“Wellness is the optimal state of health of individuals and groups. There are two focal concerns: the realization of the fullest potential of an individual physically, psychologically, socially, spiritually, and economically, and the fulfillment of one’s roles and expectations in the family, community, place of worship, and other settings.” (WHO)
